Kent Autism Diagnosis Service

Comprehensive diagnostic assessment for adults (people age 16+)

Please contact us if you feel you or a family member would benefit an autism diagnosis assessment. We offer an initial free 15 minute telephone consultation to discuss what the main issues are and why an assessment is being sought. Prior to the actual assessment, you will be asked to complete questionnaires that we will send you in the post. This helps us to obtain an initial profile of the child or adult before the diagnostic assessment takes place.

The main part of the autism assessment usually takes place in Whitstable, Kent and takes approximately 3-4 hours all together. It typically includes a direct behavioural observation and a detailed face to face interview.

The autism assessment will rely primarily on two measures generally considered to be the ‘gold standard’ for ASD diagnostic, both of which have been evaluated positively by NICE.

  • Initial screening questionnaires for the psychologist to obtain preliminary information

  • The Autism Diagnostic Interview – Revised (ADI-R)

  • The Autism Diagnostic and Observation Schedule – 2nd Edition (AD05-2)

The face to face interview takes up to 3 hours and is usually carried out with one or both parents, or where relevant it can be with someone else who is familiar with the child or adult's history and current circumstances. The person being assessed does not necessarily need to attend the developmental interview, but must be present for the direct behavioural observation. The observation takes about one hour.

Within 2-3 weeks of the autism assessment being completed, Robb Psychology Kent will provide a detailed report on the diagnosis, a summary of the developmental history, a detailed description of their current presentation in each of the main ASD areas, together with post diagnostic advice such as resources, signposting to relevant local support services and recommendations for support.

An adult autism diagnostic assessment will typically cost £1400.
